The city of Port Coquitlam is situated at the confluence of the Pitt River and the Fraser River in British Columbia. The city is approximately 27 km east of Vancouver. Coquitlam borders the city on the north side, the Coquitlam River is on the western border and the cities of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge are situated across the Pitt River. Port Coquitlam is referred to as as "PoCo" by the locals. According to population, it is the 88th biggest city within Canada.

Port Coquitlam is almost bisected completely by a Canadian Pacific Railway yard with one overpass and two underpass crossings. Mostly because of its suburban nature, Port Coquitlam city heavily relies on its vehicular roadways in order to transport both goods and people. Two of the major arterial roads are the Lougheed Highway and Shaughnessy Street. These major roads bisect Port Coquitlam to the north and south and to the west and east, respectively.

Translink supplies the city with numerous bus routes and buses. The 159 bus route, that links the the southern part of Port Coquitlam to SkyTrain, is the most utilized bus route in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. various bus routes in Port Coquitlam city include the 160 and the C38. The C38 is the route which connects Northern Port Coquitlam to Coquitlam Central Station through Port Coquitlam Station.

The 160 connects Port Coquitlam to Vancouver and it passes via Coquitlam Central Station along with Port Moody Station. Two of the main bus stops within Port Coquitlam city comprise the Port Coquitlam Centre and the Port Coquitlam Station.
