In the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, the downtown core describes the southeastern area of the peninsula which is located in the north-central part of the city of Vancouver. This particular region is the commercial, financial, cultural, entertainment, business and government hub of Vancouver.
Normally, the downtown region is said to be surrounded by False Creek to the south, the Downtown Eastside to the east, West end and Stanley Park towards the west and Burrard Inlet to the north. The City of Vancouver defines the West End neighborhood and Stanley Park as separate vicinities though many sources include the full downtown peninsula as part of the downtown Vancouver description.
Within the Downtown core, there are several really popular residential neighborhoods among the financial and central business districts. Condominiums and high-rise apartment complexes are mixed within the city's office buildings. Coal Harbour and Yaletown are among the more popular. Other downtown neighborhoods comprise Chinatown, Gastown, Japantown, the Granville Mall and Entertainment District and Downtown South.
As there is a presence of water on three sides, access to the downtown core is limited. There are 4 bridges to cross: the Granville Street Bridge, the Burrard Street Bridge, Lion Gate Bridge connects to the Trans Canada Highway and the North Shore municipalities and Cambie Street bridge provides the access to the residential and commercial locations south of False Creek.
Those people who thrive within urban locations could enjoy shopping at exclusive boutiques along Robson Street, eat at world-class restaurants and attend concerts. The surrounding sky and sea scape is perfect and gorgeous for outdoor recreation. For the outdoorsy type, in Vancouver you can go waterskiing at dawn or windsurf, do some night skiing at one of the local North Shore Mountains and play a round of Golf in the afternoon. Vancouver is a colorful, friendly and clean city. It has something to offer everybody who visits.
