South Surrey

South Surrey is a town centre within Surrey, BC, with a population of 53,980 according to the census of 2001. Bordering the city of White Rock, South Surrey has the largest population of people over the age of sixty among all of the town centres in Surrey. Various neighborhoods are included within South Surrey like Crescent Beach, Crescent Heights, Grandview Heights, Johnson Heights, Chantrell Creek, Ocean Park, Semiahmoo, Morgan Creek and Sunnyside.

Over the years, the areas of South Surrey and White Rock have become well-known tourist destinations. The warm weather conditions, gorgeous scenery and beaches of the region have likewise made them a well-known residence choice for thousands of retirees and young families. With the start of residential buildings and commercial buildings, the area continues to expand at a rapid rate. At present, there is a new town centre revitalization development going on. Lots of arts and recreation, various great schools, diverse collection of medical facilities and social programs are only amongst the things the peninsula has to offer. There are dining options existing to suit each and every taste in addition to extensive shopping.

The area of South Surrey is mainly a residential area, but has a growing business and retail sector. In the late 1980s, the Semiahmoo Mall was opened on the north side of North Bluff Road at 16th Avenue or Johnson Road and 152nd Street. There is one more shopping centre at Peninsula Village on 24th Avenue that was built in the year 1990. There is also a movie theatre located at King George Highway and 24th.

The Surrey Eagles are the South Surrey BCHL hockey team. They play at the South Surrey Arena which opened in the month of November 1991. This facility is amongst two Olympic sized rinks within the Lower Mainland. This particular rink is situated within the center of the South Surrey Athletic Park. It is bordered by athletic fields and forests.
