The West End of Vancouver, BC is located on the downtown peninsula. It neighbours the areas of Yaletown, Stanley Park and Coal Harbour as well as the downtown central business and financial districts.
The official boundary of the West End and the definition based on the city of Vancouver encompasses the area south of West Georgia Street and the area east of Denman Street and west of Burrard Street. Many Vancouverites historically and still today refer to the area as being everything from Stanley Park to Burrard Street, together with the Coal Harbour District in addition to the Stanley Park District west of Denman Street.
Coal Harbour has been officially designated as the area north of West Georgia and west of Burrard. There are newly constructed areas between the waterfront and West Pender Street which are described as Coal Harbour and are considered separate from the West End.
There are various parks and beaches that could be found in and around the West End such as Alexandra Park, Cardero Park, Stanley Park, Nelson park and Sunset beach. These parks vary very much in size. For example, Stanley Park is more than 406 hectares, while Morton Park is 0.22 hectares. Part of the Stanley Park Seawall promenade extends along the waterfront to Burrard Bridge from Ceperly Park.
English Bay Beach is another popular place. It is a big park located on English Bay that is thronged every summer during the yearly Celebration of Light fireworks display taking place each and every year in the middle of summer. Among the oldest and biggest health facilities within Vancouver is St. Paul's Hospital. It is located on the eastern edge of the district on Burrard Street.
In the West End, there are numerous popular community centre's such as the West End Community Centre, Barclay Manor, the Vancouver Aquatic Centre and the Coal Harbour Community Centre. Many of these facilities offer all-purpose rooms that are for rent, lots of gyms, swimming pools, meeting rooms an ice rink and fitness centers.
