Kitsilano

Kitsilano

Kitsilano is an upscale district situated on the West Side of Vancouver, British Columbia. Affectionately known as "Kits," the place is home to many young families, yuppies and students. There are various organic markets, yoga studios, cafés and the Greek Town of Vancouver. Multi-unit housing is the main kind of residence in the location. Recently, Kitsilano has developed a few of the highest housing prices, highest accommodation rental rates and lowest availability within all of Vancouver.

Kitsilano Beach and Jericho Beach border the district of Kitsilano. They are situated on the shores of English Bay, extending south to 16th Avenue. On the east, it is bordered by Burrard Street and on the west by Alma Street.

Together with its beaches and residential sections, Kitsilano is home to two distinct commercial spots with a variety of restaurants, shops, and other services. Among Kitsilano's commercial hubs can be located along West Broadway between Larch and Blenheim Streets. This part is occasionally known as West Kitsilano. The other commercial strip is situated between Burrard and Balsam Streets along West 4th.

There are a variety of Vancouver's annual festivals and events which happen in Kitsilano. Each and every month of June is the yearly street festival celebrating Greek cuisine and Greek culture during Greek Day. This celebration encompasses several blocks of Greek West Broadway that is the place called the Greek Town of Vancouver City. Each summertime is the Vancouver Folk Festivals at Jericho Beach Park. The yearly Vancouver Children's Festival takes place at Vanier Park at Kitsilano Beach along with the outdoor Shakespeare festival referred to as "Bard on the Beach."

One more popular group started in Kitsilano. In 1975, Greenpeace was established there with its very first office opening on Cypress Street, located just off of Broadway. The very first offices of the British Columbia Green Party were likewise situated initially in the home of longtime party leader Adriane Carr together with her husband Paul George who resided near 6th Avenue on Trafalgar Street. The summer of that particular year they moved their offices in close proximity to Cypress and Broadway and this is where the very first offices of the Green Party of Canada were born.
