Chilliwack

When gold was discovered in the Fraser Canyon in 1857, over 30,000 gold miners hiked the goldfields, usually passing through the Chilliwack area in their travels. This led to its development, and steamboat landings on the Fraser River referred to as Chilliwack landing, Sumas Landing, and Miller's Landing likewise contributed to Chilliwack's development. Chilliwack was incorporated during the year 1873, making it the 3rd municipality in British Columbia.

There are various attractions within the city of Chilliwack for the residents and visitors to pick from. One of these attractions, Minter Gardens has lots of lovely tulips which have been imported from Holland. Gwyne Vaughan Park has around six acres of prime land and a heritage home given to Chilliwack. Chilliwack Corn Maze attracts numerous families. This yearly affair makes a maze out of the corn fields and tourists are challenged to find their way out. Portage Park is great for people who like to spend their afternoons in a cozy picnic.

In Chilliwack city, the major trades consist of tourism, wholesale and retail trade (Overwaitea Food Group, Real Canadian Superstore, Canada Safeway, Wal-Mart, Sears Canada, Canadian Tires), agriculture (Unifeed, Rainbow Greenhouses, Inline Nurseries, Canfor Nurseries, Fraser Valley Duck and Goose), food processing (Johnston packers, Vantage Foods, Fraser Valley Meats, Natrel, Roger Foods, Coast Mountain Dairy) and manufacturing (Uneeda Wood Products, Masonite International, IMW Industries, TY-CROP Manufacturing, Westeck Windows, Visscher Lumber). The most economically-lucrative and popular tourist attractions within the area are whitewater rafting, hiking, golfing, and fishing.
