Mount Pleasant

The Vancouver neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant, stretches for Great Northern Way to 2nd and to 16th and Kingsway, and from Clark Drive to Cambie Street. Mount Pleasant was once defined as a working class district. Since the 1980s it has undergone a process of gentrification. The areas around the crossroads of Broadway and Main Street are increasingly being called SoMa or South Main. Furthermore, Vancouver City Hall is also located here.

The SkyTrain Canada Line serves the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood, running from the International Airport of Vancouver to Downtown Vancouver.

The neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant is considered the more recent up and coming Vancouver districts and makes up amongst the thriving communities which surround False Creek and the Downtown Vancouver peninsula. Lots of young professionals and homeowners, along with many growing families call this area home and give it its vibrancy.

Amongst the areas former stream helped to develop a lot of Mount Pleasant. The stream attracted many breweries from the years 1888 to 1912, and later became known as Brewery Creek. Street cars first began being utilized to be able to transport people during the year 1890, which traveled as far south as 1st and Main. In conjunction with the connecting routes of Kingsway and Main, Brewery Creek became the centre of commercialism and industry for the district of Mount Pleasant. A substantial growth population expanded by eighteen ninety seven, centered on Main Street and Broadway, enabling commuters to access the industries of Brewery Creek, the City Centre and False Creek areas. This accessibility provided the draw for a lot of working families that populated the region just below Broadway and in this sense; the region can be referred to as the very first suburb of Vancouver City.
