Referred to as "Uptown", the area of South Granville is an upscale Business Improvement area or BIA that has been around ever since its establishment during 1907. This Vancouver, BC neighbourhood is situated south of the downtown core. The areas that surround South Granville include Fairview, Shaughnessy, and Kitsilano.
False Creek separates the neighbourhood of South Granville with the rest of downtown. The area starts on the South Street Bridge's south side and runs up to 16th Avenue. At this particular place the shops replaced the residences of Shaughnessy.
During the year 2007, South Granville celebrated its Centennial with a celebration joining the community and the merchants. The 100 years was celebrated by the South Granville BIA by encasing and commemorating a futuristic stainless steel Time Capsule making use of stone and concrete below the historic Stanley Theatre's entrance.
South Granville, together with being an ever growing neighborhood of shops, restaurants and homes, also has a strip called Gallery Row, that is located between Broadway and the foot of the Granville Bridge. A lot of art galleries are located in this vicinity.
The historic Stanley Theatre was built during the year 1931 and is one of the South Granville's landmarks. It is presently the Art Club Theatre Company's stage.
Running north-south through the heart of Vancouver is Granville Street. This main road passes many commercial areas and some districts, showing a wide range of wealth for individuals who live around this particular street.
