Forklift License BC

Forklift License BC

Forklift License BC - Obtaining a forklift certification or forklift license within North America would require the trainee to perform classroom instruction in addition to hands-on training. The state, provincial and federal regulatory bodies are responsible for the licensing, certification and training for powered industrial truck operators. Operators may obtain a license either through training administered by the employer or by a third party. In any case, regulatory requirements must be met. Recertification is necessary every two to three years.

The forklift is a powered industrial equipment which is designed together with many alternatives, such as stand-up and sit down models, propane and electric versions, and various types and sizes to meet the industrial requirements of workers. Operator training courses are often individualized in order to address the specific uses and types for which the operator is training. Training on a gas-powered, sit-down lift truck within a warehouse surroundings will not be the same as training on a propane-powered, stand-up forklift in a shipyard. The various forklifts and their applications makes it impossible to establish universal licensing requirements for all industries and machines. Regulatory standards, therefore, have a tendency not to focus on particular program requirements but rather on the outcome of individual training programs.

On the job training which is offered by the employer is the most common form of forklift training certification and licensing. The employer who provides this method of certification is needed to offer classroom sessions and practical training on equipment at their place of work. Employers can opt to train personnel on each type of forklift separately, or to train them on all machinery combined. The program incorporates lift truck operation methods, lift truck maintenance, safety procedures and company policies. Topics particular to the worksite, like for example hazardous materials or conditions, should be included. Following classroom learning, operators are taught how to safely utilize and operate every kind of lift truck on the worksite.

When using a third party trainer, the certification process would typically consist of an on-site component along with hands-on practice.

Usually, a certification provided by an employer will not transfer from the current employer to the next employer. Obtaining a forklift license through employer-provided training enables the operator to run a lift truck for that specific employer only.

Forklift safety will always be an important aspect of the forklift license training, even if the particulars of the safety training will be dependent upon the machines being used. Some safety issues will differ for every industry and employer. Both third-party providers and employer-provided training may have to address additional requirements for safety training in applicable industries, such as in offshore and marine uses.
